Discover how our products support safety, ease, and independence for those living with low vision or vision impairment.
Living with Vision Impairment Changes How You Navigate the Everyday
Over 760,000 people in Australia and New Zealand are living with some type of visual impairment – from reduced contrast sensitivity and tunnel vision to total blindness. Simple kitchen tasks like pouring hot water or carrying a full cup can become risky without the right support, especially when you’re relying on touch and muscle memory more than sight.
Whether you’re adjusting to new vision changes or have lived with sight loss for years, the right tools – like our easy pour kettle, non-slip mat, Muggi – help you stay safe and confident in the kitchen.
No spills, no strain, just independence in every cup.

“I have AMD, since losing most of my vision, the kitchen started to feel unsafe”
“With hot water, spills, burns and scald risks, I tried to avoid it as much as I could. The Kettle made things feel more manageable again. With the Grip Mat I know exactly what I’m at. I make tea without worrying. It might seem small, but it gives me huge peace of mind.”-Helen, QLD

Frequently Asked Questions:
Vision Impairment Support
Can I fill the Uccello Kettle if I can’t clearly see the spout or water level?
Yes. The Uccello Kettle is designed for ease by touch. When filling you can leave it in the base, tap the button on the lid (it’s on a hinge so it will stay open for you) and fill it with a cup.
The kettle holds 6 cups (average sized cups) so you always know where you stand. Then, simply tap the lid closed.
How does the Kettle and Mat help if I rely on touch more than sight?
Our kettle tilts without needing to lift or judge distance, the Grip Mat helps you position your cup by feel. Simply place the mat up to the kettles front feet. Then feel in towards the smooth centre ring of the mat (there are tactile dots on the outer rings of the mat). Once your cup is in the smooth centre ring, you will always have a safe and steady pour.
Alternatively, if you do not wish to use the mat, we would recommend that you have your cup close to the kettle (handle facing the kettle base, less than an inch away) and this too is a good cup guide for you when pouring from the Uccello Kettle.
How do you fill the kettle if there is no lifting involved?
There are 2 ways you can do this. The first, is like you would fill the average kettle. You can bring the kettle body to the sink to fill it. The second, is leaving the kettle body in the base and filling with a cup or a small plastic jug – this way you never need to hold the full weight of the kettle, just the weight of a cup of tea.
Where do I put my cup when using the Uccello Kettle?
When it comes to using the Uccello Kettle, we are asked where is the best place to put the cup for a safe and easy pour every time. Truth is, there are 2 ways you can achieve this:
The first is by placing the cup (handle facing the kettle base) in front of the kettle. The Handle of the cup is no more than an inch away, this acts as the perfect guide for safe and steady pour every time.
The second is with the Uccello Grip Mat, the mat is placed against the 2 front feet of the kettle. Place your cup in the smooth center ring of the mat (regardless of where the handle is) and this too is the perfect location for a safe and steady pour every time.
Is there a warranty or return policy?
Yes, we offer a 2 year warranty on both the Uccello Kettle and Grip Mat. We also have an award winning Customer Care team who is always happy to help via email (customerservice@kcare.com.au) or phone (1300 783 783) which ever you prefer.
